Marine Mammals and Birds Curator (English speaking)

Acquario di Genova

The position requires a highly motivated individual with great experience in leading a team. He will lead the Marine Mammals and Birds Department of Acquario di Genova under the supervision of the General Curator of Costa Edutainment S.p.a. . The position will be responsible for taking care of the animals and plants of the Department, animal training, water quality, processing new protocol and maintaining organized written records about health, feeding, water quality, animal welfare and behavioral observations. This position is responsible for adhering to all aquarium safety, protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).


Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

  • A degree in aquatic sciences, zoology, biology, or related field

  • Severalyears of full-time marine mammals care experience from an accredited institution (........).

  • Certified SCUBA diver

  • Detailed knowledge of the biology, behavior, and natural history of marine mammals and birds

  • Detailed knowledge of animal training

  • Detailed knowledge of LSS (Life Support system)

  • Record-keeping.

  • Strong interpersonal skills that generate and sustain a positive team atmosphere and professionalenvironment

  • Experience in preparing and conducting public educational programs

  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • overseeing all aspects of the daily care and behavioral conditioning of the marine mammals and birds assigned

  • coordinate the execution of daily and long-term animal training goals, including enrichment, new learning, presentation/interactive program content & quality, and staff development

  • overseeing staff assignments for daily area husbandry, presentations, guest interaction programs, and other special events

  • interacts with guests and crew members in a positive and professional manner

  • ensure the facility is following industry and government standards in the areas of husbandry/cleanliness,diet preparation, record keeping, and facility maintenance

  • staff management and training and supervision of all achievements

  • representing the Company if required, externally c / o Scientific associations or specialist conferencesor government insitutions

  • elaboration of the daily / weekly diets of the animals in accordance with what has been establishedtogether with the Veterinary Manager

  • develop, implement and if necessary enforce departmental policies in all areas

  • avalability to work weekends, holidays, , and travel for periods of time.
