Exciting scientific breakthrough by one of our members!

An amazing team including Javier Almunia (University of La Laguna / Loro Parque Fundación) has published a groundbreaking study using passive acoustic monitoring to listen to the oceans in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Thanks to their work, they recorded the first-ever acoustic evidence of Iberian orca calls and identified signals of foraging fin whales, revealing new insights into their underwater behavior.

This achievement perfectly highlights the im

portance of constant exchange between field research and expertise developed in zoos and care centers: knowledge gained in human care helps interpret and guide innovative studies in the wild, improving protection for these fragile species.
