Tenerife hosts the European Premier of Escape from Extinction Rewilding ft. Meryl Streep as narrator

A documentary that highlights Rewilding as a Much-Needed Solution for Protecting Threatened and Endangered Species. Produced by American Humane with the help of Loro Parque.

Loro Parque hosted an exclusive screening of the film Escape From Extinction, produced by American Humane. The documentary, narrated by Meryl Streep, is part of the actions of visibility and awareness that the organization and Loro Parque are carrying out regarding the sixth mass extinction of species.   During the 90 minutes of projection, the film describes the different scenarios of natural devastation that the world is currently facing, showing the human causes that are producing them, showing, above all, the innovative conservation strategy that many zoos and aquariums around the world are doing to reverse this process.

In the words of Dr. Robin Ganzert, ‘there is still hope for the recovery of species. There is always hope.‘

The documentary showcases how “rewilding,” an innovative, ground-tested solution, ensures that conservation efforts are effective and sustainable. There is a focus on the rewilding efforts from zoos and aquariums around the world and the successes they have had. In her declarations, Robin Ganzert explained the value of private entities in carrying out these actions, insisting that it is from them that the long, complex and costly processes of species reintroduction can be set in motion and sustained.

The president of the Loro Parque group, Wolfgang Kiessling, described the essential work that zoos and aquariums such as Loro Parque and Poema de Mar, committed to nature, carry out, insisting on the achievements that the organisation has made together with the Loro Parque Fundación: ‘The achievements are there. Twelve species have been rescued from extinction. These are certain and verifiable data’.

He also recalled the successful reintroduction of the Lear's Macaw, which after its return to its habitat is now breeding naturally.

American Humane is the United States’ first national humane organization and the world’s largest certifier of animal welfare, helping to ensure the humane treatment of more than one billion animals across the globe each year.

This production is the second that the organisation has produced about the sixth mass extinction, after the previous one, Escape From Extinction narrated by Helen Mirren. After its preview in Tenerife, the film will be showcased as the closing night film of the highly regarded Breckenridge Film Festival before it opens theatrically in the US nation wide.

Escape from Extinction Rewilding has been acquired by Western Films for U.S. distribution and will premiere in theaters on September 27.  Global distribution will follow.  Enjoy the trailer included in the story link below and stay tuned for more information on the worldwide rollout of this powerful and timely film.
